Spanish Plumes

In northern Spain in the 700s, Jimena, a vain regional princess refuses to marry Rodrigo, a Cantabrian prince, unless he earns the right to wear plumes in his helmet by fighting the Moors. The tables turn and Jimena faces the enemy in an attempt to save her province of Asturias from the Moorish invasion.

A tribute to the resilience of our northern Spanish ancestors. Received as a dream after returning from a trip to northern Spain. As a family crest reads, “Por la fe moriré,” I will die for the faith. The cross carried in this story was later verified as the famous Cross of Asturias, but at the time the author didn’t know it existed.
